Last week the junior children of Burscough Village Primary School performed the most amazing musical – Annie Jr to a sell-out audience over four days. One of the performances was a community event, which had a special audience of visitors from the local care homes, high school, Year 7 alumni, and local town councillors.
The Year 6 children took on the challenge to learn and deliver this West-End worthy performance in less than 6 weeks, which was no easy task. All the children were truly amazing.
Mrs Yates, Headteacher commented “This is the fourth year that we have performed a musical and every year gets better and better; it is phenomenal seeing all the children shine on stage”.
Annie JR. follows the story of an orphan named Annie living a “hard-knock life” at The New York City Municipal Orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. Annie dreams of being reunited with her parents and takes action to find them. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations, befriends President Franklin Roosevelt and finds a new family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary Grace Farrell and a lovable mutt named Sandy.
A special mention goes to the year 6 teacher Miss Waring-Collins, who is not unfamiliar with the stage! She took on the Director challenge to create an unforgettable experience for all the children.
Feedback from the audience included Dr John Horsley, Burscough Town Council who wrote that the children were all stars and the event was one of the most enjoyable he had attended.
Mrs Maclaren from Burscough Priory Academy wrote: ‘A fantastic show, great production and so, so many talented children. The Year 7 of BVPS absolutely loved it and coming back too.’
This was one of the best ways for the children to conclude their primary school journey at BVPS. Alongside achieving impressive SATS results that exceeded national expectations, the children have created special memories. As they approach their final week, they continue to engage actively, singing for the community, preparing a special meal for their families, attending parties, and participating in their leavers assembly on Friday.
We will all miss the class of 2025, look forward to welcoming them back to see next year's performance! What will it be….
Be sure to keep a look out for this year BVPS staff pantomime!
